I strongly believe in this.

I just scanned a part in Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged; it spoke to me when I read it and have gone back to it many times there after.

Part II, Chapter IV, pages 489 and 490

Yes, I underline and make notes on my books as I read, even the enjoyable reads, so please excuse the scribbly bits.

I believe this whole heartedly, but this day and age, is it possible?  Do relationships like this exist often?  Can it exist?

Just wondering and wanted to share,

  1. I agree, it is quite a strong judgement. I guess it is just in the context of the book and author; the 'ideal' world as she sees and realizes.

  2. I have seen models of this kind of relationship, though I cannot gauge whether they were genuine or simply both parties striving for the imagined ideal. I've definitely seen and experienced the latter - but I do believe that we possess the capacity for it.

I think what first must happen is for the individual to seek another as an equal - not to 'complete' themselves, but to compliment their greatest strengths.
I say this because someone who tries to fill a hole in themselves with somebody else won't have enough of themselves, emotionally, to give to the other person.
I guess it sounds like something from a fortune cookie, but I think one must consider themselves 'complete' before they can have a relationship where they really afford to be honest and free with themselves to another being - to form a relationship of whatever model they seek in their heart.
